Contemporary art is a mystery. Its definition is nebulous, beyond the qualification that it be created by someone, you know, contemporary. Sigh. Six Arms to Hold You, a female-centered exhibition by three contemporary Dallas artists, seems simple enough to "get" at first glance. But then the gallery throws in descriptive words like "ambivalent" and "psychological" and I'm lost again. But the art is colorful, at times cartoonish, and borderline strange-mustachioed ladies are psychologically disturbing, I've decided. Six Arms to Hold You features pieces by John Gonzales, Cathey Miller and Joey Seeman. Miller's ladies lean toward science fiction; Seeman relies on inspiration from women he encounters, such as burlesque dancers and tattoo artists. The exhibit will remain on view through July 8 at Ro2 Art at The Aloft Hotel, 1033 Young St. Visit ro2art.com.
