Val Kilmer spent a chilly November evening on stage at the Hall of State last year. The Dallas Film Society honored the Real Genius actor with a Star Award and we spent the night half-drunk, listening to him answer questions about his career. It was clear that certain roles charged him up more than others, but Kilmer’s voice sparkled when he spoke about Mark Twain. The writer has been Kilmer’s sole fascination in recent years. So much so that Val created a one-man stage show called Citizen Twain wherein he assumes the role of the white-coated, Southern yarn spinner. It’s based on text, academic reviews and downright authentic Twainisms, and a little material done in the vein of Twain for good measure. So far, the show has been met with wonderful reviews and exceptionally strong ticket sales. We’re curious to know how it does here in Dallas, when Kilmer brings Citizen Twain to the Wyly Theater (2400 Flora St.) through Sunday. Thursday’s opening-night performance begins at 8. Tickets cost $45 to $125.
