And Life Is an Incontinent Dog

Dallas journalists have it easy. Our First World problems range from a crappy cup of coffee to an unreturned phone call, while halfway across the world, writers like Anna Badkhen write about life in war zones or impoverishment. Badhken has covered wars in Asia, Africa and Europe, chronicling the hardships and the danger for publications like The New Republic and The New York Times. She’s put many of the stories she collects in books too, the most recent of which is The World is a Carpet, a story about women in an Afghan village where they are weaving a new carpet over the course of four seasons. If it’s anything like her work as a war correspondent, it’s sure to be compelling and jaw-dropping. But be sure to pick your chin up off the floor when you meet her at the book signing and discussion at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Wild Detectives (314 W. 8th St.).
