What do hyenas, haikus and theater have in common? One man: Matt Tomlanovich. If you’re friends with the beloved director and actor on Facebook, you have probably been exposed to his “Hyena Haikus,” and you’ve probably noticed that they have been absent as of late. That’s because Tomlanovich has been hospitalized since April with a serious MRSA infection in his spinal cord. He is making good progress, but it is likely that he will be a quadriplegic. To help out with his medical costs, the Dallas theater community is banding together to host a benefit in his honor. The first night features live music, appetizers and wine. The second night hosts original one-act performances from some of the city’s most talented actors. The third and final night is structured like a variety show, and is family friendly, so take the kids out on a Friday night and make it a family affair! The events are at 8 p.m. August 20-22 the Margo Jones Theatre, 1121 First Ave. Visit gofundme.com/helpinghandsformatt for more info.
Wed., Aug. 20, 8 p.m.; Thursdays, Fridays, 8 p.m. Starts: Aug. 20. Continues through Aug. 22, 2014
