Sometime in the past 10 years, the purveyors of children’s television figured out that parents fully hated most of what their kids were watching. As a result, there was a great backlash against Barney and Elmo, and a chorus of tired voices rose up and said “We are not going to take it anymore.” Parents no longer relished the time when their kids would sit still in front of the TV and leave them alone, mostly because what was on the TV haunted their dreams. But the creators of Yo Gabba Gabba figured out that if you sprinkled in appearances from The Flaming Lips or Erykah Badu or Weezer, parents might suffer a little less. The show is no less inane than any other kiddie show, but the fun musical cameos make it at least borderline tolerable. This is hopefully the case with the Yo Gabba Gabba Live! Music Is Awesome event, too. Sure, it’s like a seizure on stage, but your kids will be entranced and the added bonus of Leslie Hall and Biz Markie will help to ease the pain. Lean into it — tickets to the show at Verizon Theatre, 1001 Performance Place, on at either 2 or 6 p.m. Friday are $26 to $46; visit verizontheatre.com.
