Veteran Dallas Chef Ian Tate Is Taking Over Salum and Komali

Abraham Salum announced a significant change yesterday at his restaurants Salum and Komali. Ian Tate has been named executive chef at both restaurants, replacing Anastacia Quinones, who's been cooking there since February, 2012.

Tate brings experience from his time at Brownstone in Fort Worth as well as Rathbun's Blue Plate Kitchen and Slow Bone in Dallas, according to a news release. He was also the executive chef at Nova, and his most recent post was at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington, D.C.

Komali is known for its modern take on Mexican cooking and one of the best margaritas in the city. Salum takes a fine dining approach -- picture fancy things like pan seared foie gras and braised pork cheeks. The menu at both restaurants, which share the same address on Fitzhugh Avenue, are expected to stay the same.

If you're wondering what happened to Quinone's, she's leaving the service industry behind. A spokesperson for the restaurants says that while Quinone's was with Salum at his recent James Beard House appearance, she just left to become a teacher in the DISD system.
