Italian Eats, Stackhouse Love, and a Cheap-Ass Sandwich: This Week in Dallas Grubbing

Ugh. On the heels of a massive bowl of Pho with a Dallas Super Yelper (more on that next week), I'm ready for a quiet night at home. I wonder how many minutes I'll last alone on my couch before I get the bug to get out and look for something to interesting to eat. I give myself till 7:30 tops.

But before I nap there's a week to wrap in crispy iceberg.

Leslie Brenner and I made up, if you haven't heard. After one week of not reviewing the exact same restaurant, we were back on the same itinerary with this week's reviews. She was quite kind to Princi Italia, awarding the restaurant two stars. I thought was tantamount to elevated Olive Garden. But we both noticed plenty of happy faces while we dined, so maybe Preston Hollow has gotten exactly what it wants in its newest Italian restaurant.

Here on City of Ate, Lauren broke the story on Cedars Social's new chef. Her interview is a fast-paced read on a new player in town. Make some time for it. She also introduced us to two new restaurants, Campo and Stackhouse. I realize her post about the burger joint with a view was technically posted last week but I don't care -- that burger looks silly good.

And while I poked fun at chopped beef, iPhones and a Healthy Dining Site, Princess Penny Pinchers checked out the sandwiches at Scardello Artisan Cheese.

SideDish cut and pasted 6000-plus words of Thanksgiving menu press releases for your reading pleasure. Have fun slogging through that. But you should really read Timmy Typer's take on the Stackhouse. It's a fun read.

I should have done a better job at sleuthing last week, when I linked to the story I found on Pegasus. It was a re-print, I've since realized, of an Entree Dallas story. That blog reviews Off the Bone this week. It's a nice little site.

Crave DFW got some sexy shots of soup dumplings being made. Steven Doyle says "the most common way to eat the soup dumpling is to transfer the morsel from the basket to a short, wide soup spoon ... and nibble off the end to slurp out the juices." Me? I like chopsticks or fingers. And then I just pound the the thing.

Eat something amazing this weekend and come back and see us on Monday, OK? We'll debate Dallas' best mac and cheese, revisit the bar food of my youth, take a look at a cool place for a drink on Henderson, and all get fat together.
