Lady Gaga Tuesday, January 29, at American Airlines Center, $65-$200 Jan 29th sees the Dallas leg of Lady Gaga's latest attempt to put some relevant words in front of the word "Ball" and successfully market it as an event. To be fair to Lady G, she's one of those rare pop phenomenons who managed, at least for a while, to successfully unite critics and a rabid fanbase, and she certainly knows how to put on a show. At the very least, and with no basis whatsoever in experience or fact, I can guarantee you glitter, flames, autotuning, bizarre and unwieldy costume changes, probably some sort of wheeled contraption, PETA protesters and a good-to-great Madonna impression. Gojira Thursday, January 31, at The Granada Theater, $22-$24 If you're in the mood for some non-categorizable French metal (and who isn't?!) then the Granada has a treat for you, as non-categorizable French metal band Gojira swing into town. Fans of this deeply specific genre will have been upset to see Gojira's support slot with Lamb of God and the titanic Dethklok cancelled last September, after the LoG's singer's arrest in the Czech Republic caused the cancellation of the entire tour. Now those fans can rejoice, as not only do Gojira, who sound a bit like if Tool and Sepultura had a bar-fight (in France), have a headline slot, but also you don't have to travel to Grand Prairie to see them. What's more, they come with a stellar supporting cast: Atlas Moth and the Devin Townsend Project share opening duties. -- Gavin Cleaver
Wale Tuesday, January 29, at House of Blues, $30 Just a few weeks ago up-and-comer rapper Wale released his eighth mixtape, Folarin, featuring heavy hitters like Rick Ross and 2 Chainz. Now he's touring around the U.S. and working on an upcoming album, appropriately titled Album About Nothing. The word is he reached out to none other than Jerry Seinfeld to contribute to the rapper's upcoming project. Tomorrow at House of Blues we'll see if he pulls out all of the stops for his live shows too. -- Rachel Watts
Centro-Matic, Satans of Soft Rock Thursday, January 31, at Dan's Silverleaf, $12/$15 If you need a good reason to drive to Denton this week, I've got one for ya. Denton's beloved (and Paste mag favorites) Centro-Matic will headline a show at Dan's this week, in the midst of a short winter tour. The clan is apparently back in the studio for a follow-up to 2011's catchy Candidate Waltz. Warming up Thursday's crowd is Little D's supergroup Satans of Soft Rock, who can be deemed neither Satanic nor soft rock, but is rather Tony Ferraro's poppy take on pure, uncut rock 'n' roll. -- Rachel Watts
Blixaboy, 4D, Betamaxx, DJ Spacechase Thursday, January 31, at Andy's Bar, Free Each week at Andy's Bar, Denton Dance Collective and DJ SpaceChase host Subsonic Indulgence, a bill of local artists, DJs and electronic musicians who play enough electronic, techno, dance and hip-hop to get your body rockin'. The all-original music is accompanied by live painting by Beth Yturri each Thursday night. This week you can expect a performance from one of Dallas' most well-respected DJs, Wanz Dover, who goes by the name Blixaboy.
