11 Shows to See This Marijauna Day Weekend

Paul Oakenfold
Friday, April 20, at Zouk

Zouk's had some controversy surrounding appearances of certain celebrities as of late, but one can expect that super DJ Paul Oakenfold will most likely be there to perform tonight.

Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit
Friday, April 20, at Dada
I'm surprised Jason Isbell was so quick to return to Dallas after having all of his gear stolen out of his band's trailer only a few months ago. He does have an album to promote, though. He's still on the road working 2011 release Here We Rest.

Stardeath & White Dwarfs, New Fumes, Hanna Barbarians
Friday, April 20, at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios
If you wanted to see Oklahoma City's Stardeath & White Dwarfs but can't make the drive to Dallas on Saturday, just catch them the night before in Denton at Rubber Gloves. It'll be a good show, and there's always a chance The Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne might show up, seeing as he's got a nephew in Stardeath.

Ted Nugent
Saturday, April 21, at Lone Star Park
I wonder how many secret service agents will be at this show.

Amos Lee, Calhoun
Saturday and Sunday at Fair Park Bandshell
I always know that Earth Day comes after marijuana day. And this year Earth Day Dallas will celebrate over the course of two days. Saturday will have performances from Amos Lee and Sunday will feature local acts like Ishi, Air Review and Datahowler, along with a handful of others.

The Black Dotz
Saturday, April 21, at Queen City Hall
Wanz Dover recently told me he's done trying to promote his Blixaboy stuff in the U.S., let alone in Dallas. Instead, he's got a soul/garage act that is definitely worth your time. Conjuring up Motor City in the '60s and '70s -- an era most of us can only imagine -- The Black Dotz put on one of the most exciting shows in town.

Scary Cherry & The Bang Bangs, Darstar, The Crazy Ivans
Saturday, April 21, at Curtain Club
Remember when I said Curtain Club needs to add a little variety to their concert calendar? Well, they've done so with this Girls Rock Dallas showcase, which brings local female-fronted rock acts Scary Cherry & The Bang Bangs and Darstar. Can't imagine a better venue for this show.

Record Store Day
Saturday, April 21

We've written a lot about about Record Store Day this year. Check our handy list of record stores that will be celebrating. A handful of places will have the official Record Store Day releases, free beer and free food, though Good Records might have most of the Dallas market cornered. Last year Chris Penn said they floated 33 kegs of beer and he expects to do more this year.

Edgefest 22
Sunday, April 22, at FC Dallas Stadium
We've already talked about our dream Edgefest lineup. If you look at previous ones, this is probably the best one since 1993. I'd still take a repeat of Edgefest 1, which had Pearl Jam, The Sugarcubes and Charlatans UK.

Adair's 49th Anniversary
Sunday, April 22, at Adair's Saloon

Keep the party going on Sunday at Adair's in Deep Ellum as they celebrate 49 years of being in business. There will be a crawfish boil and live music outdoors, featuring The King Bucks and Boys Named Sue.

Salim Nourallah
Sunday, April 22, at Good Records (4 p.m.)

Salim Nourallah's new record Hit Parade is among his best. I'm a little biased, though. I drummed for Salim for several years. But go see for yourself at his Good Records performance on Sunday afternoon.

...and that's it from us. We hope you have a good weekend and we'll see you back here on Monday.
