When XXL revealed its Freshman Class of 2009 much of the hype went to Asher Roth, but it was B.o.B. who would see the most commercial success. In 2010 the Atlanta based rapper unleashed The Adventures of Bobby Ray on the world and quickly shot up the billboard charts with hits like "Nothin' On You," "Airplanes," and the Rivers Cumo featuring "Magic." Not a bad year.
Since then B.o.B. has dropped 4 mixtapes (including 1 last month), 2 full length albums, and teased an all rock music EP. He's also been working on a collaboration with labelmate T.I. and a Grand Hustle label wide compilation titled Hustle Gang. Obviously the dude likes to stay busy.
This morning word broke that B.o.B. would embark on a 24 date US tour with current XXL 2014 freshman class pick Kevin Gates. Gates is being heralded as one of the highlights of the class, and many expect big things from the Louisiana bred artist who sounds like a mix between Kid Cudi, and Manny Fresh, but with a flow that touches on Busta Rhymes like acrobatics at times.
The "No Genre" tour is set to take over the Prophet Bar on Saturday, October 25, and should be an interesting look at an artist who swerved out of the "make pop music" lane into something a little more genuine.
