M Oliver London was known around Deep Ellum as "Moe." He worked the door at Wit's End, where he was known for his welcoming demeanor and spirit. He died early this morning after suffering a stroke in late September.
He's been in the ICU for the last couple weeks. A benefit show was planned at Wit's End for this Sunday, October 13, to cover some of his bills, and some dozen bands joined the lineup.
His family was posting updates on the wall of the Facebook event for the benefit. On Tuesday, the official word was that he'd awoken from a coma and was communicating. The prognosis seemed good. But early this morning, Moe passed away. We don't know what, exactly, happened yet, but we'll update here when we do. Wit's End posted the following message this afternoon:
Chelsea Hamner-Blasingame has asked us to pass along the deeply saddening news that M Oliver London, our beloved Mo, passed away this morning - Friday October 11 at 3 am.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be posted as soon they have been finalized.
Chelsea also asked us to thank everyone for the outpouring of love, concern, and prayers for Mo and his family. It has helped during this very difficult time more than you can know.
Sunday's show will go on as a memorial to a beloved member of the Deep Ellum music community, along with a similar benefit scheduled at Reno's Chop Shop.
