Dallas Observer Music Awards nominee The Hourly Radio is once again on the verge of the big time thanks to MTVu. Their video for “Deaf Ears,” in which they take on the film Harold and Maude, has landed on the channel’s The Freshmen show with five vids up for a playlist spot. At last check, they are ranked third behind Hot Dollar and Limbeck, but everyone has until Friday to get their votes in by going to the show’s Web site.

But will this pull them out of their verge-of-superstardom status? Despite all the attention they keep getting from American Eagle, Billboard, Spin and Rolling Stone, among others, they keep missing the mark of being the next great Fall Out Killers at the Disco band to hear incessantly on Top 40 radio and at Old Navy. Who knows? But I just have two words of advice for the guys: New. Manager. --Rich Lopez
