Dallas ISD to Learn Some Interesting Legal Lessons Come January's End

End of January's shaping up to be busy, busy, busy for the Dallas Independent School District. Says school board trustee Carla Ranger on her blog this a.m., Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has set a January 19 deadline for the DISD, the Texas Education Agency and "other interested parties" to submit briefs pro or con the school board's decision to extend its term limits from three years to four. Ranger -- vehemently opposed to the extension of term limits, if not the entirety of the school board itself -- has posted letters from Robert Scott, the state's education commissioner, and a rep from Abbott's office.

Also, after the jump, you'll find some of the latest docs in the case of Graciela McKay v. DISD. McKay's the former Preston Hollow Elementary School teacher who says she was retaliated against after she outed racial discrimination on campus. The two parties were supposed to go into mediation at the end of last week, but scheduling conflicts have pushed that to the end of January in advance of a scheduled March 2 trial date.
