The latest issue of The Economist contains a special section about Texas -- six stories in all to down with your morning coffee: "Lone Star rising," "Tex-mix," "Work hard. Be nice," "Beyond oil," "The red and the blue" and "The new face of America." (Guess which of the handful leads with, "The elected sheriff of Dallas County is a lesbian Latina.") That doesn't even include the story pitting California against the Lone Star State. Or this interview with Christopher Lockwood, The Economist's U.S. editor, who insists Texas is where "the future of America is being played out." But, really, is "Texaplex" catching on? No, really.
