Details From Tim Headington's Fine-Tuned Plan for The Joule's Hotel and Retail Expansion

It's been a year, more or less, since we last heard Tim Headington talk about his plans to expand The Joule in downtown, which began with his purchase of five properties along Main and Commerce in September 2009. And since we haven't heard much more since May, when the hotel and retail expansion went before the council's Economic Development Committee, from time to time some Friends of Unfair Park ask for updates -- usually along the lines of what and exactly where.

The answer to the latter remains up in the air; Headington -- who's now deep in the movie bidness, having most recently said he's going to jump-start the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider franchise -- likes to keep a low profile and has declined our myriad interview requests. (Those council docs from last spring said that in order for Headington to get his $20 mil in TIF grants and tax breaks, he'd need to get a certificate of occupancy by December 2013.) But the answer to the latter can be found in this week's City Plan Commission docs, where a single-page development plan devoted to The Joule expansion can be found under the TIF Hotel moniker.

What you see above is a thumbnail of a massive layout found on Page 81 of the CPC's agenda, which provides more specific details, such as: Headington's planning on adding 16,328 square feet of hotel space in 1526 Main Street and another 3,072 square feet at 1604 Main Street (once the very site where Not Mayor Tom debuted his vacant building initiative), while his project -- which also includes 1417, 1505 and 1511 Commerce -- will add another 10,300 square feet of retail space (last year's docs required 12,500). And: new sidewalks.
