We're a week into March, which probably means one of two things for Dallas music fans: You're either preemptively popping Xanax to brace yourself for South by Southwest in Austin or else saying to hell with it and preemptively popping Xanax to deal with the insanity of St. Patrick's Day in Dallas. Thankfully, we've made the decision-making process easier by bringing a little of Austin to Dallas on St. Patrick's Day.
For the past month, we've been relearning the lyrics to "Semi-Charmed Life" and "Jumper" by Third Eye Blind, following the announcement that they'll be headlining the Dallas Observer's St. Patrick's Day Concert, presented by Bud Light. (Who are we kidding, we never forgot the lyrics.) But now we can fill out the rest of the lineup as well, with Austin natives Saints of Valory leading the way.
SOV, an alt-pop band signed to Atlantic Records, should make for a pretty easy pairing with 3EB. Just check out the below video of their 2013 single "Neon Eyes" from their Possibilities EP if you're not familiar. The rest of the lineup mixes up the genres a little more, but they do follow in kind with SOV by all being from Texas (which, really, is the most important character trait to keep in mind).
Joining SOV will be a trio of North Texas artists, all of whom were nominated for the Dallas Observer Music Awards last year. Jessie Frye's pop-rock actually also makes for a good pairing with 3EB, and she even comes with the endorsement of none other than Bernie Sanders' campaign. (Just the place you were looking for music recs, right?) Alt-country punks the Vandoliers are liable to be the rowdiest band of the whole lot (ergo, fit right in with the St. Pat's crowd), while Kirk Thurmond and the Millennials should round things out nicely with an R&B flavor.
Tickets cost $15 and are on sale now at ticketfly.com. The show takes place immediately after the St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday, March 19, at Energy Square, near the intersection of Greenville Avenue and University Boulevard. Gates open at noon. For more information, visit DallasStPats.com.
Guests must be 21 years of age or older to attend.
