New items replace under-performers like the beer can chicken and crab quesadillas, says chef Daniel Menchaca. "There were some menu items that the guests weren't happy with we weren't happy with," he says. Some of these new dishes, however, should make Rustic-goers pretty happy.

The biggest stand-out: The Hot Chicken and Cheese, a take on Nashville hot chicken that features spicy fried chicken, mayo, dill pickles and beautifully melted American cheese on griddled Texas toast. We were ready to pass this by as just another gluttonous carb overload, but this sandwich turned out to be delightful: warm, buttery bread, creamy cheese and a little kick from the moist fried chicken made this an indulgent sandwich we couldn't put down.

There's an ambitious new taco set-up, too, featuring bacon fat tortillas and fillings like carnitas, brisket and sweet potato picadillo, and some surprisingly light, fresh dishes like a Gulf shrimp cocktail and a beautifully simple grilled catch-of-the-day topped with a caper sauce. Check out the slideshow to see what's new on The Rustic's menu.
