Cal Farley's Boys Ranch: What We Do and Who We Serve

Imagine a place where struggling children are given physical shelter and the hope, guidance, and love they need for a brighter future. Such a haven exists in Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, a residential childcare organization committed to supporting distressed families for more than eight decades.

It's hard to find an organization with more legacy and commitment in residential childcare than Cal Farley's Boys Ranch. The organization has been a beacon of hope for struggling families, offering diverse services tailored to meet the unique needs of each child and their family. Boys Ranch serves boys and girls, ages 5-18, at no cost to the families.

The Need for House Parents

At the heart beat of Boys Ranch are the house parents, who are compassionate individuals or couples providing nurturing and transformative connections with children in their care. Boys Ranch directly impacts the lives of children, providing them with a stable, loving environment they may not have experienced otherwise.

House parents can earn bonuses and incentives to recognize their invaluable service. The House Parent Referral Program allows individuals to contribute by referring potential house parents to Boys Ranch and earning up to $2,500. Additionally, the House Parent Incentive Program fosters continuity by offering up to $6,500 in bonuses to newly hired house parents over the course of their first two years of employment. The house parent's role is a central pillar at Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, shaping a wholesome and supportive atmosphere for the children.

A Strengths-Based Approach

Cal Farley's Boys Ranch provides professional programs and services in a Christ-centered atmosphere to strengthen families and support the overall development of children. The organization believes in instilling core values in the children they serve, with a strong focus on integrity, perseverance, and faith. At Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, we don’t see the young people who come to us as problems in need of a solution. Instead, we approach them from a completely different perspective. We see their strengths. With a strengths-based approach, Boys Ranch is committed to strengthening family bonds and supporting the overall development of each child and family.

Expertise and Leadership

Cal Farley's Boys Ranch is led by a team of seasoned professionals devoted to serving youth and families in need. With leadership roles helmed by individuals such as President and CEO, Richard Nedelkoff, and Chief Operations Officer, Mark Strother, and vital functions such as program oversight by Boys Ranch, the organization is in capable hands.

Their Model of Leadership and Service represents six universal needs – safety, power, purpose, belonging, achievement, and adventure. Boys Ranch believes when these six areas of need are met, individuals can reach their fullest potential. Relationships that are unconditional and restorative are key to meeting these needs. The organization believes challenging behavior stems from one or more of these needs not being met – or being met inappropriately. This approach moves us from the certainty that behavior is simple willful defiance to being curious as to what need is behind the behavior.

Following more than two years of intensive certification and thousands of personnel hours dedicated to master the core concepts and implement the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT™) in its clinical setting, Cal Farley’s is now a Flagship Site for the ChildTrauma Academy (CTA) in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (2012). Now, as a Phase II NMT™ Certified Site, Cal Farley’s can offer leading edge services to children and families.

Comprehensive Support for Children and Families

Cal Farley's Boys Ranch reaches beyond residential care — it's a lifelong commitment to their residents. Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch provides an intake and admissions program to facilitate the placement of children at the campus, as well as alumni support to ensure that former residents continue to receive the services they need as they transition into adulthood. Placing a top priority on child safety, Cal Farley's spares no effort in ensuring the well-being of all youths under their care.
