We don't get too too many chances to talk jazz in these here DC9 parts--although, really, when you have the time, you really should do yourself a favor and check out the great Monday night Bad Ass Jazz gigs at the Amsterdam Bar in Expo Park--so pardon this little sidetracking.
Anyway, remember last week when we mentioned the upcoming big band album from Roy Hargrove? Well, even though Emergence, Hargrove's first foray into leading a big band on record, won't see the light of day until August 25, the folks handling the record's release have been kind enough to pass along a track for your downloading and listening pleasure.
After the jump, check out "Ms. Garvey, Ms. Garvey," which is about as classic a big band sound as you can get. Tough not to picture a packed dancefloor from the roaring '20s while listening to this classic take, with its piano-based arrangement and lush horn adornments and flourishes.
