Looking for an awe-inspiring concert but can’t wait for AC/DC to burn through town with a 500-foot-tall inflatable devil? Perhaps a change of gears in the form of Junior Brown will suit your tastes. No, the country legend doesn’t tour with pyrotechnics, but he does play his half guitar, half pedal steel like he’s a Vegas dealer shuffling cards, and he winds his instrument out of and back into tune as nimbly as anybody else would hit a C chord. Sure, his country songs are great, but it’s when he does things like re-create famous movie sound effects, including the tones from Encounters of the Third Kind, that the awe really sets in.
