A Reason to Smile Smile

Our music blog, DC9 at Night, features a brief chit-chat with Ryan Hamilton -- one half of Smile Smile, we're not not sure which Smile -- concerning the band's October 17 show in New York City, at the Alphabet Lounge. As it happens, Hamilton and Jencey Hirunrusme have been invited to perform at the annual CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival shindig, as have St. Vincent, Centro-matic and Eisley (hope I didn't leave out any folks with local connex). The band promises updates, with pics, on DC9 at Night following the showcase. Till then, you really oughta get yourself a copy of the band's Blue Roses, which you can preview in its entirety here should you need convincing, and you shouldn't. --Robert Wilonsky

Support the independent voice of Dallas and help keep the future of Dallas Observer free.

Keep the Dallas Observer Free... Since we started the Dallas Observer, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Dallas, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Dallas with no paywalls.
