Leppert: Asian Trip "Will Translate into Economic Investment, More Jobs in Dallas"

Mayor Tom Leppert and council member Ron Natinsky are wrapping up their trade mission to China today; alas, no flaming statues for the mayor, only the hope that a Shanghai company will bring one of its LED manufacturing facilities to Dallas. Leppert and Mayor Ji Jianye of Nanjing also signed a Friendship Agreement, after which the mayor handed him a Dallas Mavericks jersey -- which, says Chris Heinbaugh's press release, "has proven to be a popular gift with Chinese officials"; South Korean too. (So happens the Mavs have a warehouse full of Wang Zhizhi jerseys and are more than happy to get rid of 'em.)

Says Natinsky, the establishment of the City of Dallas Regional Center is going to translate into investment; adds Leppert, "The response we've gotten on so many levels has us all feeling very encouraged that this will translate into economic investment and more jobs in Dallas -- sooner rather than later." A trip summary from Heinbaugh follows, as does a photo of the world's loneliest banner.
