Our New Favorite Local American Idols (Or Not)

Really, some of us at Unfair Park aren't big fans of American Idol. We are, however, fans of cousins William Green and Akron Watson of Dallas, one of whom didn't make the cut on last night's show. Why not? Well, if there's a note hit during Willie's version of "Amazing Grace," we didn't find it. And, like Simon says, "it's never-ending." Akron's Sam Cooke is better -- much, much better, if only because he's far more familiar with the concept of "singing." Media-savvy Willie does provide a genius exit strategy. But Akron...he might just be Idol-worthy, after all. (Watch the video now, before GooTube yanks it down.) --Robert Wilonsky

Update: This just in: Akron Watson won't be on Idol after all. Reports TMZ.com, courtesy hometowners Pegasus News, he was "disinvited from the Hollywood round of the show, possibly after producers discovered a pot bust on his record." Well. That sucks. At least we don't have to watch Idol now.
