I don't think this is going to make the December 26 broadcast of the Kennedy Center Honors on CBS. Just a guess. But last night, during the show at which Dolly Parton, Steven Spielberg, Smokey Robinson, Andrew Lloyd Webber and conductor Zubin Mehta were being feted, Jessica Simpson blew a line during her rendition of Parton's "9 to 5." (Perhaps she thought it was a math problem?) According to reports, Simpson ended the performance by muttering, "So nervous" before running off the stage. To no applause. Writes the Associated Press this morning, "Simpson appeared to be crying when she and other singers in the tribute returned to the stage."
But, go figure, People magazine sounds the voice of reason here. The mag reports: "Singing '9 to 5,' a visibly nervous Simpson muffed a line and, as she finished, said: 'Dolly you make so nervous. I can't even sing the words right.'" Either way, odds are nine to five the thing never makes air. Dang it, y'all. --Robert Wilonsky
