Support the independent voice of Dallas and help keep the future of Dallas Observer free.
Our old pal Mike Schoder just called with some Big Breaking Rock and Roll News: The Granada Theater has booked Roky Erickson for a July 14 show -- rounding out a weekend that begins with X's John Doe on July 12 and Centro-matic on July 13. And, yes, the father of psychedelic rock (and Dallas native) will be there himself with the Explosives; no Hoot Night here, damn it.
Tix go on sale June 1 on the Granada Web site -- and there's a bonus. There will be no opening band that night, because at 8 p.m., the Granada will screen our pal Kevin McAlester's Roky doc You're Gonna Miss Me, nominated for an Independent Spirit Award late last year and recently picked up for national distribution. Roky's expected to take the stage around 10 p.m. And, Mike assures us, yes, he will be there. So get your ducats when they go on sale, or you're gonna miss him. Saw that coming, right. After the jump, some classic Roky and the 13th Floor Elevators video. --Robert Wilonsky
Keep the Dallas Observer Free... Since we started the Dallas Observer, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Dallas, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Dallas with no paywalls.
