While we're on the subject of North Dallas shopping malls, this significant bit of real estate news: Around this time next year, Crate & Barrel's leaving its Alpha Road location, across the street from the Galleria, and heading further north up the Dallas North Tollway. Quite a bit further north too: "I can confirm our projected relocation to The Shops of Willow Bend in the spring of 2011," says Vicki Lang, Crate & Barrel's manager of public relations.

Unfair Park had heard last night that C&B is taking over old Lord & Taylor location, which it abandoned in 2004 and which remains vacant. Lang says only that "these are such early days" for the relocation, and she can't address specific sites. Regardless of where it's going in the mall, though, the move from Dallas to Plano -- which is "very good news for Willow Bend," says a friend in the commercial real estate business -- will leave a massive hole in the Alpha Road shopping center. That Crate & Barrel location, incidentally, was designed by Good Fulton & Farrell and won a design award from the Dallas chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America in 2000.
