The days of baking in a tanning bed are a distant memory for most of us. And now spots and splats of skin discoloration stretch across our faces. Why didn’t we listen when we were teens who just wanted to bake to a crisp?

These days, the spray tan scene in Dallas is more developed than in years past. And if you aren’t too shy to strip down to your birthday suit, you can even get custom abdominal definition painted on by your an airbrush artist. With spring and summer nipping at our heels, we’ve rounded up some spots for you to snag your bronzed glow, completely sunless and UV-free.

Hush Hush Tan
An Austin-based spray-tanning company is moving its way to Dallas. Hush Hush Tan, which officially opens its doors April 5, will call The Shops of Highland Park its new Dallas home. Known for its natural tanning formula made of fruit extracts, aloe vera moisturizer and anti-aging botanicals, the salon has partnered with Dallas-based nonprofit The Family Place for its grand opening week. From April 5-12, 15 percent of profits from products and services sold will be donated to the organization. Spray tans with a purpose — not a bad deal. The Custom Glow is one of the salon’s most popular services, and it usually runs at $45 a pop, there's a grand-opening special of $35 the first week. Teeth whitening is also offered at the Dallas location.

Sol Sunless Tanning
With locations in Dallas, Frisco, Flower Mound and McKinney, Sol Sunless Tanning has you covered across the area. You have the option of taking a dip in the spray tan booth or having a customized experience with one an airbrush technician. Obviously, the catered and crafted care is a bit pricier. The good news? There often are Groupons so you can snag a discounted tan. Standard pricing without Groupon promos is $55 for a single session, but there are discounts if you buy more than one session in advance.

Tan Bar
With locations in Dallas and Plano, the Tan Bar offers a multitude of custom tans. You have some options: Full Body Shot ($50) or a waist-up or waist-down option called Partial Punch ($30). What’s great about the Tan Bar is that its tanning rooms are heated, so you won’t be shivering in the buff as much as at other spray-tan spots. When that cold solution hits the skin, it can make you lose your breath. Tan Bar also offers an Exfoliation Fizz for $15. If you haven’t had the chance to exfoliate before your spray tan or still have lotion on your skin, this pretanning prep exfoliating spray helps break down barriers and balances pH levels.

Tantrum
One of the biggest hassles when getting a spray tan is that it can be a bit messy afterward. Those streaks on your sheets are stubborn and don’t come off without a fight. Plus, sometimes you’re in a hurry to get on with your day and take a shower to rid yourself of the spray-tan smell. Tantrum has a quickie option that helps accelerate the tan developer process. With the Express Tan ($55), you can rinse off in two to three hours, as opposed to the standard that takes eight hours to develop (Signature Full Body $45). If you want to really lock in your deep, dark tan, you can spring for a double dip and get sprayed down twice for an extra $12. Tantrum locations stretch out across DFW in Dallas, Denton, Frisco and Richardson.

Spa Nordstrom
Spa Nordstrom is a popular spot for Dallasites to get that golden glow sans the sun, and it’s a more luxurious, frou-frou experience. Ain’t nothing wrong with that when you feel like splurging and indulging. General pricing structure includes the Instant Glow Airbrush Tan ($50 to $60) and the Smooth Skin Airbrush Tan ($95 to $120). As each experience is tailored to the individual, the spa suggests specific pricing inquiries upon a visit and consultation.
