Furniture lovers, take note. An especially alluring shopping event opens to the public this Saturday, April 14, in the Design District. Dwell With Dignity, a non-profit that helps furnish residencies for families transitioning out of homelessness, knows nesting treasure when it finds it. And by the looks of this month's pop-up furniture store, they've fully stocked the place with salivation-worthy inventory.
Vintage, designer and craftsman pieces reside cozily together in Dwell's showroom and will be marked down to fire-sale prices. You can snatch up your dream end table or sofa for a pittance and the money spent goes back into the community. Collectors and the severely under-decorated will want to shell the extra bucks for Thursday and Friday's preview events, which run from 6 to 9 p.m. and give private access to the stockpile and first-dibs rights on purchases.
Thursday's preview will attract the most competitive shoppers, which is reflected by the $125 entry price; they'll be allowed to cruise seven showrooms and staged areas and basically ransack the place while enjoying Ketel One cocktails and nibbles by The Butcher's Son. Those who don't mind waiting a day can spend $25 for Friday's showing. Food and drinks will be provided by Meso Maya, Royers Round Top Cafe and Republic Tequila, and Dwell will reveal its new antiquities room populated with items from Marburger Farm -- it'll be dolled up and arranged by Austin's SoCo staple, Uncommon Objects.
Saturday starts the free-for-all where anyone can hunt down their dream items without paying a cover. Dwell With Dignity's Thrift Store team will scuttle around restocking from their inventory warehouse throughout the show's run, so new pieces will transition to the buying floor until the event closes on May 12.
Dwell With Dignity's Thrift Studio is located at 1250 Slocum Drive Suite 550 in the Design Center. It will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
