The two-time Tony-winning musical that's kept Broadway rooms booked since its 2012 release is coming to Dallas. This one's a powerhouse, fast approaching its 700th performance on its home turf, where it set and smashed seven Nederlander Theatre house records, making Newsies the 2011-2012 season's break-out hit.

The book was handled by four-time Tony winner Harvey Fierstein and music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken, so yeah, Disney pulled in the big guns for this takeover, which our sister paper the Village Voice called "The New Annie."

Based on the "Newsboy Strike of 1899," which you know mostly through the 1992 film of the same name, Newsies is the story of a ragtag group of orphan and runaway kids who brought down a publishing empire. This touring production is brand new, and is quite a "get" for the Winspear, and in turn, for Dallas.
