Don't Talk - Siri from Alamo Drafthouse on Vimeo.
The Alamo Drafthouse has a strange monopoly in the movie business on public service announcements that find new and creative ways to tell their patrons to shut off their phones.
Their latest entry into their PSA vault is nothing short of well-timed genius. This time in a loose honor to Spike Jonze's latest bit of Oscar bait Her, they tapped voiceover artist Susan Bennett, better known as "Siri" to iPhone hipsters who are anxiously awaiting the day when using any handheld device won't actually require your hands at all. In it, she becomes the evil, electronic force that we all imagine Siri will one day become if she gains too much power over the lethargic.
This is just the latest in a long line of Drafthouse PSAs. They famously turned one of their ruder, former customer's self centered and angry voicemails into a PSA that went viral a couple of years ago. They've also enlisted the help of some famous faces to help them tell their customers to kindly shut up, such as Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke, Michael Madsen, Danny Trejo and even the late Texas Governor Ann Richards. The last one is definitely the scariest since it implies that she's badass enough to rise out of her grave and smack the phone out of your hand just so other people can watch The Nut Job in peace and quiet.
