Several months ago LuminArte Design Gallery put out a call for artists, posing the question "What would Andy Warhol do in today's information age?" with the intention of putting together a contemporary pop art exhibition in honor of Andy Warhol's 83rd birthday. The gallery held the opening reception of its What Would Andy Do? exhibition last Saturday to celebrate Warhol's birthday. The gallery has brought together a multimedia exhibition of original paintings and video installations from more than a dozen local, national and international artists whose works reflect Warhol's sensibilities from a modern perspective. The show includes Christoph Fuhrken from Germany, Philadelphia's Penelope Fox, Marisa Candaten (originally from Australia and now based out of Austin and Dallas), as well as a number of local artists including Robb Conover, Liz London and Jason Reynaga. This is the also the public debut of Dallas native Jim Lively's "The Vegetable Can Insurgency of 2011." What Would Andy Do? runs through September 30 at LuminArte Design Gallery, 1727 E. Levee St. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, as well as Tuesday and Wednesday by appointment. For more information, visit luminarte.com.
