Artopia is the party of the weekend. The Dallas Observer art overload features some of the city's best music acts (Ishi, Dezi 5), a fashion show, performances by magician Confetti Eddie, and so much more. There will be drinks, dancing and a lot of art. 

One of the world's heroes died this week when David Bowie returned to his star planet. Venues all over the city are planning tributes to the late, great shapeshifting rock star. At 9 p.m. Friday the Texas Theatre screens The Man Who Fell to Earth and hosts an all-vinyl salute in the lobby. Tickets are $10.50.

If you're looking to add some art into your weekend, grab your member's pass to the Dallas Contemporary and stop by the opening reception for the latest round of programming from 7-10 p.m. Saturday evening.  Dallas-based artist Jeff Zilm fills one of the cavernous galleries with his newest paintings for Lossless Forms for Picture Plane; London-based artist Aura Satz, whose work will be on display in Her Marks, a Measure, is interested in the intersection between the human and the machine; Black Sheep Feminism: The Art of Sexual Politics features a series of radical feminist artists, who have been active since the 1970s.
Eat This!
You might not be surprised to learn that the best-selling dish at Meddlesome Moth is the drool-worthy burger. But it might be surprising to find out that the chef's favorite dish right now is on the appetizer menu. The Hungry Farmer is their version of a cheese and charcuterie plate and is worth adding to your to-do list this weekend. 

If you'll be up north this weekend, you might want to swing through McKinney and stop at Sugarbacon Proper Kitchen. We're not crazy about its marquee dish, that's true, but we feel just fine about the rest of the food on the menu. 

The newest addition to east Dallas isn't necessarily what we'd expect from the lake-hugging hippies. Lakewood Smokehouse carries meat by the pound and boy, is it worth lapping up. 

Drink This!
If you're looking to drink away your David Bowie sorrow (and you happen to be in Denton), Paschall Bar whipped up a Diamond Dog cocktail in his honor. It contains Campari, sweet vermouth, lime juice, fresh squeezed OJ and is topped with Champagne and a lime peel garnish. Forgive us for not fully understanding how that recipe shakes out stardust, but we're happy to tip one back for Bowie.

If you think you're the only person who could sit around and watch David Bowie's music videos over and over again, think again. In fact, the Alamo Drafthouse is hosting an evening dedicated to just such a thing. At 9:30 p.m. Saturday, the Richardson theater will screen some of Bowie's iconic music videos on the big screen. Tickets are $10.

If you want to do the time warp again, the Texas Theatre hosts a shadow casting performance of Rocky Horror Picture Show at 10 p.m. Saturday. Los Bastardos are the city' s most popular Rocky Horror troupe. Tickets are $12.  

We're not saying you should hang out at Texas Theatre all weekend, and we're not saying you shouldn't. But at 2 p.m. Sunday, the theater screens the next entry in its collaborative series with the Nasher Sculpture Center, Beauty Is Embarrassing, the film about artist Wayne White. Tickets are $5.

If you want to join in with your fellow David Bowie lovers in song, Crown & Harp is hosting a special David Bowie karaoke night from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Saturday. Sing your favorite Bowie song in honor of the Thin White Duke. 

Bill Nace & Jake Meginsky are two phenomenal artists and musicians. Individually they've collaborated with the likes of Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore, and, well, each other. They stop at The Wild Detectives at 8 p.m. Saturday for a free night of poetry and music. 

Wrap up your weekend with an all David Bowie dance night at Lola's Saloon in Fort Worth. DJ Snoopi spins Bowie tracks, Tyrel Choat performs acoustic versions of his five favorite Bowie songs, and Dead Mockingbirds pay tribute to David Bowie. Admission is $5 for 21+up.
