Exhibited for the first time in the United States – and in partnership with National Geographic – this collection shows off the intricate artisanal works of ancient Peru. On display are a variety of objects in textile, ceramic, gold and silver, demonstrating the vast technical abilities of the early Peruvian civilization. The pièce de résistance is the El Tocado, the most ornate, pre-Columbian headdress ever discovered. Additionally, a series of gallery lectures, films, tours and hands-on activities will complement the exhibit throughout its run. After viewing these antiquities, visitors will swear El Dorado still exists, somewhere hidden in the Andes. Peruvian Gold: Ancient Treasures Unearthed is on display at the Irving Arts Center (3333 N MacArthur Blvd, Irving) opens October 3 and runs through December 31. Tickets and additional information available at www.irvingartscenter.com.
Thursdays, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Fri., Oct. 3, 6-8 p.m.; Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sundays, 1-5 p.m. Starts: Oct. 2. Continues through Dec. 31, 2014
