If you live anywhere near the corner of Lakeland Drive and Ferguson Road, the opening of Whistling Pig was likely big news. While many Dallas neighborhoods have experienced a restaurant renaissance over the years, epicurean developments have been glacial to non-existent here. Thankfully, the folks behind The Cock and Bull are speeding up the thaw. Their newest neighborhood pub is just what you wished you had in your own neighborhood. In fact, you should make the drive even if you don't live nearby. The Cuban and pastrami sandwiches alone are worth the trip. The Whistling Pig boasts a spacious room, with a massive horseshoe bar that keeps everyone in tune. It’s a good place to drink and it’s a great place to sit around getting fat on premium sandwiches. Just remember: When you’re asked to choose between french fries and Texas Toothpicks, always pick the latter. Onions are cut into slices instead of rings, forever putting to rest the problem of pulled onions that leave you with an empty tube of fried breading.
