The word "community" gets thrown around a lot, but it seems as though the North Texas music community is indeed acting as one in order to help a talented and beloved member. When the Phuss' Drummer Trey Alfaro was seriously injured after a hit-and-run driver crashed into him as he rode his bike in Dallas on the night of Friday, August 8th. The horrific injuries he dealt with were but the first of his upcoming problems. As an uninsured musician, the medical bills began to pile up instsantly.

Josh Fleming, the lead-singer of the Phuss, who counts Alfaro as his best friend, set up a GoFundMe campaign which has been a successful one to this point, thankfully raising $8,600 of the stated $10,000 goal since it began nine days ago. But 13th Floor Music and the Dallas-based band Dead Flowers want to help get to the 10k sooner than later.
In order to do that, Ken Welker of 13th Floor Music, Dead Flowers and So & So's in Dallas have put together a great show for tonight. The Corey Howe-led Dead Flowers will take the stage at 10pm after the venue's usual Wednesday night country show featuring the Raised Right Men and a percentage of the proceeds from the bar sales will go directly to Alfaro's medical expenses. According to Howe, So & So's will also make a donation aside from bar sales proceeds to help the cause.
In an encouraging development, Fleming sends word that Alfaro had his stitches removed yesterday. Plus there's further silver lining as he also says that the band he shares with Alfaro will soon be rocking on all cylinders, which is timely as their new album, On the Prowl, will be out on September 16.
"Trey's in good spirits and itching to play soon," Fleming says. "We canceled all of our shows for August, though we are still planning to perform at Index Fest and then hit the road for our east coast tour in October. All in all he has made a speedy recovery and is waiting to hear from his oral surgeon on the estimate for his surgery. Our community has really been the medicine he needed to get through this."
