There aren't too many secrets behind the successes of either Best Coast or Wavves, who join forces to take over the Granada Theater in what's sure to be a busy night at the Greenville Avenue venue. Both mine a warm, lo-fi aesthetic in their slacker, California chic offerings, with the former using '60s girl-group doo-wop for source material, and the latter utilizing a more early '90s grunge influence. Also, they both really dig beaches. And cats. It's all out there -- even the pretty public relationship shared by Best Coast frontwoman Bethany Cosentino and Wavves mastermind Nathan Williams.
So, surely, this current tour shared by the two young lovebirds must be quite the treat -- especially given how so much of Cosentino's music focuses on how lost she is when not near her love (see the above "When I'm With You" for example). But that's not the only treat on this bill: Fans of each act will surely also find comfort in the sounds of the opening act, Best Coast's Mexican Summer labelmates No Joy, whose even more spaced-out lo-fi offerings serves as a nice bridge between these co-headliners' styles.
All in all, this should prove quite the show.
