It doesn't feel like the holiday season yet, but Spune Productions is ushering in the holiday spirit with its sixth annual Christmas Party tomorrow night at Hailey's Club in Denton.
The festivities will include free (Christmas?) tacos, free wassail, and, of course, music. Telegraph Canyon is headlining the shindig, which will also include performances from other Spune acts Monahans, Birds & Batteries, Doug Burr, Seryn, and Glen Farris.
Too early for Christmas cheer? That's OK. Here are some other shows we've already mentioned this week.
Tonight, Drowning Pool has been reduced to playing for toys. Not really, but tonight at Trees they'll be performing at a Toys for Tots benefit along with The House Harkonen, Ursa, and Faint The Fiction. Meanwhile, Justin Townes Earle will be at The Granada Theater along with Caitlin Rose and The O's. And, over in Fort Worth, Cheap Trick will be at Billy Bob's Texas.
On Saturday, Summer Ames, Paul Slavens, and Garret Owens will be at Opening Bell Coffee in the South Side on Lamar building, and John David Kent & the Dumb Angels perform at Jeff Allen's Homeown Jam at the Van Zandt County Fairgrounds in Canton. In other Christmas festival news, Smashing Pumpkins, Jimmy Eat World, Cage The Elephant, and Civil Twilight will all be at Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie as part of KDGE-FM 102.1 The Edge's How The Edge Stole Christmas.
And on Sunday, Sundress will be at Hailey's Club along with Final Club, Land Mammals, and The River Mouth.

Birds & Batteries
Friday, December 3, at Lola's Saloon in Fort Worth
San Fransisco indie pop outfit Birds & Batteries are in town, mainly, to play at A Spune Christmas at Hailey's Club. But it would be kind of a pointless journey to get here and only play one show. So, tonight, you can catch them at Lola's Saloon, where they will play their sweet and affecting songs for the Fort Worth set.
The Orange
Friday, December 3, at Ghostbar
Ghostbar is known more for booking uber-famous DJ's, and attracting $30,000 millionaires than they are for booking local rock bands. But tonight they've made an exception for psych-pop act The Orange, who claim, via Facebook, that entree is free if you have a golden ticket. How one gets a golden ticket, we're not sure. But we bet if you just show up, getting in for free won't be a problem. How do you think all those $30,000 millionaires do it?
Will Johnson
Friday, December 3, at Dan's Silverleaf in Denton
One of Dallas' greatest, most prolific songwriters plays a solo show in his hometown. Sitting in Dan's Silverleaf will probably feel like sitting in Johnson's living room tonight, as he plays one whiskey-soaked sad song after another.
The Astronaut Suit

Austin seems to be a happening place for bluesy psych-rock acts (see The Black Angels), but The Astronaut Suit's take on the genre favors Spiritualized more than it does The Velvet Underground. Paper-thin vox keyboard pads flow through entire songs of gritty psych-blues -- a sound not to be missed at Doublewide tomorrow night as the Austin band makes a rare stop in Dallas.
Wes Jeans, Lance Lopez, Hunter Hendrickson
Saturday, December 4, at Reno's Chop Shop Saloon
This night of Blues Hammering will be headlined by Marshall bluesman Wes Jeans, but the shining star of the show is our own Hunter Hendrickson -- a 19 year-old blues prodigy who is making a big splash in the local blues scene.
Epic Ruins, Calhoun, The Orbans
Saturday, December 4, at Lola's Saloon
With the release of their stellar new record The Void Mariner and the Mystic Boogie of the Sacred Line, it seems that Epic Ruins are riding high. And headlining this excellent line-up at Lola's Saloon will only help things get better for the Fort Worth quartet. Calhoun, led by area music veteran Tim Locke, are anxiously awaiting the release of their new record Heavy Sugar.
