Last year's trippy Electric Daisy Carnival did so well that it will be back for a second time in Dallas on Saturday night in Fair Park.
This year's headliners are DJs Paul Van Dyk and Diplo, along with a couple dozen other artists who will, just like last year, keep the party going into the wee hours.
But if your brief love affair with techno ended in the late '90s (guilty), we've got plenty of other shows for you this weekend, starting with the stuff we've been talking about all week.
Tonight, The Polyphonic Spree will perform at the Dallas Museum of Art for free, and Sundress, Roy Robertson, Peopleodian, and Alphabet will be at Hailey's Club in Denton. Also, P-Funker Bootsy Collins will be at the Palladium Ballroom.
On Saturday, The O's will be at Dada along with San Antonio's Buttercup, Lonesome Heroes, and Greg Schroeder.
And, on Sunday, R. Kelly, Keyshia Cole, and Marsh Ambrosius will be at Verizon Theatre, while Sam Robertson and Western Giants perform at Hailey's Club.

Headkrack, A.Dd+, Sore Losers, others

This event, called The Calling, Volume Two, features a whole roster of local hip-hop talent, presented, in part, by head Definition DJ crew member DJ Drop. The headliners are Headkrack, A.Dd+ and Sore Losers, but the show, which begins at 9 p.m., includes a few other up-and-comers worth your watch, including Que P and Lil Tony. The stated mission of the night? "To unite the Hip-Hop scene in the Dallas/Fort Worth area by creating a
true Hip-Hop market platform so aspiring artists can have different
avenues to expose their music and most importantly build a demand at
home as a support system." OK, then!

The first time we heard about one-man-band Aaron Barker, he was listed as "Poor Aaron Barker" on the Dan's Silverleaf website. We recall that he didn't take to kindly to the mistake, so, here, we list him simply as "Aaron Barker." Anyway, he'll be taking his loose, self-proclaimed "honky-tonk bull shit" to Bryan Street Tavern tonight.

Flash back 15 years, and this exact show could have happened somewhere in town north of the Trinity River. No way it would've happened on the other side. But the Kessler opened up the "music white people like" file, and will welcome this polka/acoustic rock bill to Oak Cliff this weekend.

Yet another installment of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra's Concerts In the Garden Series. This time, it features the music of Star Wars as well as a laser light show. Pretty cool stuff, should you find your self with a blanket, picnic basket and bug spray while Fort Worth way.

This show was announced the day after his last Dallas show, which took place at The Kessler Theater. It goes without saying, but dude kind of plays here a lot. So, if you don't catch this show, just log on to his website the next day, where, we presume, another Dallas show will be announced promptly.
Slobberbone, Rodney Parker & 50 Peso Reward, Dove Hunter

Dallas music legend Brent Best and his band Slobberbone are sure to put on a whiskey-drenched show for longtime fans tomorrow at the Granada. Newly reunited opening act Dove Hunter should be the perfect warm up, with their pseudo-Southern rock and Led Zeppelin-y riffs.

Leave it to Good Records to go pimping high school harp ensembles. However, this one, as you might assume, isn't your normal group of orchestra nerds. They've been known to throw a little Radiohead into their setlist -- not to mention that Polyphonic Spree's Ricky Rasura is involved. Nice little way to spend your Sunday afternoon.
