While it doesn't have quite the same fanfare of the little festival in Austin this weekend, there is still reason aplenty to head out west: The Festival starts tonight and goes through Sunday afternoon, and features performances from Sarah Jaffe, Telegraph Canyon, Reverend Horton Heat, King Bucks and many more.
Speaking of music festivals, this weekend the Austin City Limits spillover will be in full effect, which explains why we've done so much talking about the following shows all week long.
On Friday, hopefully Matt & Kim, with the help of Fang Island, will keep their clothes on at House Of Blues, and School Of Seven Bells, Active Child, and Eyes And Ears will almost certainly make eardrums bleed at Hailey's Club. The xx will bring their Mercury Prize winning ethereal pop to The Granada Theater along with Warpaint.
On Saturday, Morning Benders, Twin Sister, and Cults will bring their blog-hyped, jangly indie-pop to The Kessler Theater, and The National will be at House Of Blues along with Owen Pallett.
On Sunday, Sarah Harmer will be at Poor David's Pub.
More of this weekend's shows--of which there are plenty--after the jump.
Two Door Cinema Club
Friday, October 8, at The Loft
Irish dance punks Two Door Cinema Club will be pump things up at The Loft. That is, unless they are fed light beer--in which case they will go berserk.
Dub Assembly
Friday, October 8, at Trees
Dallas based Dub Assembly brings its brand of dubstep to Trees for what will undoubtedly be a massive dance party.
Gaslight Anthem, Rival Schools, Fake Problems
Friday, October 8, at Palladium Ballroom
The Austin City Limits spillover strikes again. New Jersey's Gaslight Anthem will bring their freewheeling, gritty pop-punk to Palladium Ballroom. Does every band from New Jersey have to sound like The Boss? Not complaining though--they could sound more like Bon Jovi.
Bosque Brown, Lalagray
Saturday, October 9, at Dan's Silverleaf
We haven't heard a ton from local folk darling Mara Lee Miller as of late. But this is the perfect setting for her to showcase her music under the moniker Bosque Brown. Lalagray's Ashley Myrick opens the show.
Devendra Banhart & The Grogs
Saturday, October 9, at South Side Music Hall
California freak-folker Devendra has some stiff competition on this night of stellar shows in town. He's passed through town many times before, and this time he'll be back by his band The Grogs.
Chris Holt, Random Blue
Saturday, October 9, at La Grange
Local virtuoso Chris Holt releases yet another record of polished pop songs. This CD release show at La Grange, where he will celebrate the release of A Cosmic Joke, should be an impressive showing of his songwriting and guitar playing.
Esben & The Witch, Darktown Strutters, Menkena
Sunday, October 10, at The Nightmare
UK's Esben & The Witch will be the perfect headliner for this bill of ethereal and dark music. Menkena will open the show with its spacey shoegaze, followed by some dark dance-pop from Darktown Strutters.
That's it from us. Enjoy the festival weekend, and we'll see you back here on Monday.
