It's the freakin' weekend. And it couldn't come quickly enough...
So, let's get started: It's a particularly big weekend in Deep Ellum on Saturday night--biggest in a while, by my estimation--with a bunch of shows that we've already clued you into: Dove Hunter's CD Release, the last Red Blood Club show ever, Club Dada' awesome Times New Viking-featured bill (which we're still giving away tickets for; click the link), and the SEED benefit at Sons with Matthew and the Arrogant Sea.
We also already clued you into tonight's The Gourds show, Shock of Pleasure show, and Crypatacize/Callupsie/Florene show. Oh, and we told you about Sunday night's Grand Archives show, too. But--just in case that isn't enough--here's a few more to round out your weekend.
The Hollywood Kills, They Were Stars, Homer Hiccolm & The Rocket Boys, Quiet Company, Comrade 8 p.m. on Friday, June 20, at Club Dada Method Entertainment's bringing together this interesting bill of two Dallas bands (They Were Stars and Comrade) and three out-of-towners. At the very least, with a five-band bill, that's a lot of bang for your buck.
Eleven Hundred Springs 9 p.m. on Friday, June 20, at Dan's Silverleaf in Denton The Eleven Hundred Springs fellas take to the Silverleaf's stage tonight to further promote their impressive recent release, Country Jam.
The Fleshtones, The Mullens, The Ugly Beats 10 p.m. on Friday, June 20, at The Double-Wide New York garage-rockers The Fleshtones, a band that's been doing its thing for 30+ years now, are the obvious draw to this show, which also feature's Dallas garage-rockers the Mullens and super-fun Austin retro-pop act The Ugly beats.
Toadies 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, at the Ridglea Theater in Fort Worth The Toadies are back, playing around town to promote the upcoming release of its new album, No Deliverance. Just so you know, this show's been long sold out. But the after-party at Lola's with Dead Twins? You can probably still force your way in there...
Daughters, Russian Circles, Young Widows 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, at Lola's Saloon in Fort Worth It's gonna be a pretty heavy night at Lola's on Saturday with this bill of experimental metal acts brought through town via Parade of Flesh booking. Also, keep this in mind when planning to head out for this show: It's an early one (because of the Toadies' after-party).
Airline 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, at The Barley House See what all the fuss is about on Saturday night when the local CMJ-charting Airline plays the college-friendly Barley House crowd.
RTB2, Back After Dawn, We Are Villains, Triprocket 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, at Lakewood Bar & Grill Not to slight the other bands on the bill, but RTB2 is clearly the one to watch here; if you haven't seen this duo's blues-rock live show yet, you really should. The act's already the talk of Denton, and has been getting more and more buzz of late in the Big D, thanks to a seemingly new booking strategy that sees the band playing Dallas a lot more.
Mount Righteous, A.M. Ramblers, The Great White Jenkins 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, at The Chat Room Pub in Fort Worth The Chat Room Pub's kinda sprung up out of nowhere recently, providing the Fort Worth scene with a surprisingly steady stream of the 'plex's best acts. This show's no different, boasting the adorbale Mount Righteous and the full-steam-ahead momentum of the A.M. Ramblers, whose new self-titled album will almost certainly be available for purchase at this show.
