The Granada Theater's not the only venue around town celebrating an anniversary this week: On Saturday night in Deep Ellum, Trees will celebrate its own one-year anniversary. Tough to believe that it was just a year ago that the venue re-opened, but, hey, time flies.
And the venue will be celebrating the same way it opened, with a performance from the DOMAXXII-winning Fair to Midland. Opening up are Otep, Moving Atlas, The Phuss and American Mantra. But, see, here's the kicker: For all attendees 21 and up, this show's just $1 to attend. Minors will be charged $10.
On a more solemn note, our condolences go out to all of Ace McNeely's family and friends, who will be celebrating his life in a memorial concert featuring a handful of McNeely's closest friends at City Tavern on Saturday night. Ace played a big role in the Dallas music community--most notably as bassist for Grant Jones & The Pistol Grip Lassos, and as City Tavern's sound guy.
And now, on to some other noteworthy shows we mentioned this week.
On Friday, City Tavern will have local spaghetti western heroes Monco Poncho along with Sean Russell, and Eleven Hundred Springs will be at Lola's in crazy Fort Worth. And at Superpages.com Center, The Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival will have Korn, Rob Zombie and Lamb Of God along with many more of those hard rock acts the kids love so much.
On Saturday, Airline will play their final show with the help of The Orbans at Double Wide, Spooky Folk, Writer, and Matthew Gray will be peforming at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios, and Doug Burr will celebrate the release of O Ye Devastator on vinyl at Good Records with some help from Birds & Batteries.
On Sunday, La Grange will have The Charming Gardeners performing in Deep Ellum, and on Lower Greenville Ave., at The Cavern, Ricki Derek will be doing his Sinatra thing.

Denton takes over Oak Cliff. Two of Denton's critical darlings of the last decade perform in Oak Cliff's newest venue. There is quite a contrast between Record Hop's hard rock and Matthew & The Arrogant Sea's more mellow indie sound, but whatever.
