This weekend is a pretty big one -- if anything because of the True Widow show at Double Wide on Saturday night. That's right, they'll be celebrating the release of their sophomore album As High As The Highest Heavens and From The Center To The Circumference Of The Earth. Get there early, though, because odds are that the line to get in the door will be even longer than the disc's title.
But if you can't get in to that show, we've got plenty of other options for you, starting with ones we've been talking about all week.
On Friday, Descender, Record Hop, and Oil Boom will descend on Lola's Saloon in Fort Worth, and Todd Snider and Great American Taxi will be at the Granada Theater.
On Saturday, Arlo Guthrie will be at House Of Blues, and DEVO will be at Palladium Ballroom. Juanes will be at The Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie, and Salt-N-Pepa, Doug E. Fresh, Biz Markie, M.C. Lyte, and Kool Moe Dee will be at the Dallas Convention Center. And Destroyer will be at The Loft with War On Drugs, and Nervous Curtains.
And on Sunday, Murs will be at Hailey's Club in Denton.
More of this weekend's shows after the jump.
A.dD+, Picnic, DJ Sober
Friday, March 25, at The Loft
A.dD+ seems to be on a roll lately. Week after week the local hip-hop group converges on a new venue for what always turns out to be a big show. This one is no exception, especially since they've enlisted the help of DJ Sober, who basically spins the soundtrack to my summer after sixth grade. Just to be clear, that is a compliment.
Bravo Max!, Guitars
Friday, March 25, at Double Wide
Super-talented Dallas rock band Bravo Max! are beginning to gain quite a bit of notoriety lately, and this intimate show at Double Wide is the perfect opportunity to see them perform. Each member of the band is a multi-instrumentalist, making use of traditional and non-traditional rock instruments to create an energetic and beautiful sound.
Jon Dee Graham, RTB2
Friday, March 25, at Double Wide
Texas Music Hall of Famer Jon Dee Graham will make the drive up from his hometown of Austin to perform one of his highly touted solo sets on the Kessler stage. Sharing the headlining bill is Denton's own RTB2, who, despite their prolificness, come off looking a little wet behind the ears when put up against Graham's extensive résumé.
Rob Henderson, Binary Sunrise, New Fumes, The Swindle
Friday, March 25, at the Aardvark
With Binary Sunrise's weird disco and New Fumes' glitch-pop, the Aardvark is the place to be in Fort Worth this weekend. In fact, it's almost like a Good Records Recordings showcase in the middle of Cowtown. But just like the Old West, Fort Worth can be a bit of a desert when it comes to avant garde music. So get refreshed by the psychedelic sounds of these two Dallas acts.
The Angelus, Curvette, Bad Design
Saturday, March 26, at Pastime Tavern
It seems that the Pastime Tavern is becoming the favorite Dallas stage for Denton bands to play. And like all of the venue's past shows, this one will be loud -- especially considering the ear-destroying reverb that The Angelus is famous for.
Fort Worth Cats, The Nervebreakers, My Three Sons
Saturday, March 26, at the Aardvark
Dallas punk legends reunite to perform with, well, Fort Worth punk legends at The Aardvark. This show should be amazing, especially considering the past accolades of The Nervebreakers. They opened for The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Ramones, and many more punk acts of yesteryear, yet they never quite broke out like those bands. Though Saturday will offer a good opportunity to take a retrospective look at the DFW punk scene some 35 years ago.
REO Speedwagon
Saturday, March 26, at Billy Bob's Texas
Speaking of 35-year-old music, if you just can't get enough "Keep On Loving You," head out to Billy Bob's Texas.
Adair's 48th Anniversary Party w/ King Bucks
Sunday, March 27, at Adair's Saloon
Adair's is celebrating their 48th anniversary on Sunday with free crawfish, (presumably) cheap beer and music from King Bucks. Festivities kick off around 2 p.m., so dust off your beer koozie, and head down to Deep Ellum early. And don't worry, there will still be plenty of time left over to get to this show:
Dashboard Confessional, John Lefler
Sunday, March 27, at Palladium Ballroom
Normally, Dashboard Confessional wouldn't make much of a bleep on our radar, except this time Dallas' own John Lefler will be opening the show. He's actually the touring guitarist for the emo-light superband, but now he's broken out on his own with a solo record called Better By Design.
...and that's it from us. We hope you have a great weekend, and we'll see you back here on Monday.
