Perhaps the best thing about the local music scene is how generous North Texas musicians are when it comes to benefit concerts and other ways of donating to worthy charities. And, as you'd expect, the Haiti earthquake catastrophe has prompted an outpouring of support from the local music scene.
First off, Denton "nuclear polka" Grammy-winning Brave Combo will be part of a diverse benefit show that also includes local reggae/worldbeat act Watusi and the jazz-funk party starters of Inner City All Stars along with rock, meringue, salsa and Latin dance groups. The party lasts from 5:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.
The show was originally to take place at the Hard Rock Cafe, but thanks to public enthusiasm has moved to the more spacious Prophet Bar in Deep Ellum. Check after the jump for the full lineup and schedule.
Also, Fort Worth's The Burning Hotels are among the artists included on Paste Magazine's Songs For Haiti download fund-raiser. The band has donated "Austin's Birthday," from its forthcoming album, to the cause. Paste will spread donations between the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders and Wyclef Jean's Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund. Make a donation and you have access to some 250 songs in the magazine's Download Vault (which also includes a Jackopierce song). Plus, if you've already donated elsewhere, the magazine will still reward your generosity with access to the vault. Didn't realize that $10 text to the Red Cross would pay off like that, didja?

Wow, that's a bevy of great roots rock. And all for only $28 with all proceeds going to aid the victims of the earthquake disaster in Haiti.
Besides it being a great concert for a great cause, the event also offers a preview of several acts (Band of Heathens, Kinky Friedman, Ray Wylie Hubbard and Reckless Kelly) that will be performing in the Dallas area in the very near future.
