With the release of St. Vincent's new album Strange Mercy, Annie Clark, the artist behind the moniker, is making the late night television rounds, performing what we'd presume would be a song from the new record. Except, last night on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, she didn't.
Instead, the Dallas native opted to perform a cover of "She Is Beyond Good and Evil" by Britain's The Pop Group. The performance gives Clark a chance to flex her guitar muscles, something she's been doing a lot of lately, and delve even deeper into the post-punk sound she hints at on her single, "Cruel," and certain other tracks from her new album.
In other news, Dallas supergroup The Boom Boom Box, made from a rotating cast of Pleasant Grove, Baboon and ex-Pinkston members, who now rock harder than they ever have before. And, as of today, you don't have to venture out to Double Wide or Renfield's Corner, where the band plays regular shows, to hear their music. You can download their debut album City In The Sun, nine crushing songs made by Dallas music lifers, over at iTunes. The band's Facebook wall says that, until they get CDs printed, iTunes is the only way to get a copy of the record.
And finally, a few months ago, we ran a story in the print edition about a local record label, Executive Music Group, who are more or less competing with the majors. Today we learn that the label has added another somewhat high-profile act to its roster. Alien Ant Farm is now signed with EMG, along with 12 Stones and The Dirty Heads, who, just last year, broke the Billboard record for longest running independently released single on the alternative chart for their song "Lay Me Down."
