Fort Worth experimental metal band Pinkish Black has signed with Relapse Records. This is a monumental achievement for the band, consisting of the Daron Beck and Jon Teague, as Relapse is a respected player in the metal world. (It also happens to have some local ties through True Widow and Kill the Client, so the band will be in good company.)
But for Beck and Teague personally, it also represents a chance to take care of some (tragically) unfinished business: Relapse will not only be releasing Pinkish Black's upcoming third album in 2015, but also an unreleased record from their last band, the Great Tyrant.

While only being an active project for almost four years, Pinkish Black's rise to prominence has been a tour de force. The band, consisting of duo Daron Beck and Jon Teague, formed from the remains of their previous act the Great Tyrant. When Tommy Atkins, the Great Tyrant's bass player, committed suicide in 2011, the remaining members decided to soldier on and continue under the new moniker Pinkish Black. Since then, they have done well to take their musical pursuits to the next level while honoring Tommy's memory.
Previously, the band had their debut album in 2012 in local label Handmade Birds. The album was met with great acclaim and the band was quickly swooped up by famed metal label Century Media Records. In 2013, they released Razed to the Ground with Century Media and the band became the toast of the metal world for their eclectic musical arrangements.
The band's signing to Relapse, which they announced early this afternoon on their Facebook, is just the thing for them capitalize on that momentum. Not just as a mark for Pinkish Black, whose star continues to rise in the music world, but to Beck and Teague themselves. Accompanying the signing of Pinkish Black and the release of their next album on Relapse will be the final the Great Tyrant album, The Trouble With Being Born. It was the end of the Great Tyrant that led to Pinkish Black. That event put the duo on a crash course to this point.
Pinkish Black is here now. They have the ability. They have the platform. Now, much like in 2011, where they go is up to them.
