Aficionados of electric blues would do well to get down to Pearl at Commerce this Saturday for blast of twelve bar heaven with Smokin’ Joe Kubek and Bnois King. Kubek was born in Pennsylvania but was raised in Irving and has been a part of the Dallas blues scene for nearly 30 years. His most recent release, Blood Brothers, features Bnois King, another stellar fret burner. Separately, each is an earful; together, they should blow the roof off this joint. Speaking of the venue, Pearl at Commerce has a lot of prime shows in the near future. Guitar Shorty hits the place August 22 and blues diva extraordinaire Janiva (watch how you pronounce that) Magness will do her thing on September 6. So this weekend, head on down to the deepest part of Deep Ellum and don’t shy away from the adult beverages. --Darryl Smyers
