Mark Kozelek Thursday, December 6, at Granada Theater, $29-$39 I've been hard on Kozelek's past band, Red House Painters, mainly because in college they radiated an air of preciousness I couldn't accept. As I've gotten older and softer, though, Kozelek's music, namely Sun Kil Moon, has grown on me. The spring of 2013 sees the release of Perils From the Sea, his new collaboration with the Album Leaf's Jimmy LaValle, the seasonal companion to Sun Kil Moon's 2012 release, Among the Leaves. On the Granada stage, he'll no doubt be reelin' in the years. Sahara Smith opens. Check out our interview with Kozelek. -- Audra Schroeder
Dead Week Print Show 2012 Friday, December 7, at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios, $3/$5 As the fall semester comes to an end in Denton, Gutterth and Pan Ector once again host the Dead Week Print Show at Rubber Gloves and the Meme Gallery, a tandem print art/music event featuring the electronically assisted sounds of Zorch, New Fumes, Summer of Glaciers, Def Rain and Ulnae, and locally sourced poster art, which could easily double as the perfect Christmas gift for an aesthetically-minded friend or family member. -- Audra Schroeder
Nervous Curtains/George Quartz Friday, December 7/Saturday, December 8, at Double Wide, $5 Double Wide's been pulling double duty since the closing of LaGrange a few weeks ago, and taking on their orphaned shows. This isn't one of them, but it's a solid weekend of locals, starting Friday night with Nervous Curtains, Blackstone Rangers and Skeleton Coast. Saturday sees that cad George Quartz, plus Midnight Movies and Atomic Tanlines, a Denton punk band that put on possibly the best set I saw at last month's Dallas Observer Music Awards showcase. Singer Ally Lowe ended the set by taking off the fur coat she was wearing and ripping it apart with scissors: Deconstructionist art on many levels. -- Audra Schroeder
KXT 91.7's Holiday Concert Saturday, December 8, at Live Oak Music Hall & Lounge, $12 As part of KXT 91.7's holiday concert series, the radio station is hosting three shows in December, one of which features folk quintet Milo Greene and local folk-pop band Air Review. Los Angeles' Milo Greene released their debut self-titled album earlier this year, and were listed as one of Esquire's "artists to watch" in 2012. Dallas' Air Review will release their newest effort, Low Wishes, on January 29. Brenna Manzare and Chambers join in the festivities as well. -- Rachel Watts
Norton Records Benefit Sunday, December 9, at Magnolia Motor Lounge, $5 Last month, Norton Records' warehouse, which sits in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, was flooded during Hurricane Sandy, which destroyed much of their inventory. This is sad news for fans of the obscure punk/surf/R&B/soul label, founded by Billy Miller and former Cramps drummer Miriam Linna in 1986, which is responsible for releasing albums from Sun Ra, Reigning Sound, Andre Williams and Hasil Adkins, as well as their excellent Fort Worth Teen Scene series. Makes sense, then, that Fort Worth would host a benefit for them, featuring locals Casa Magnetica, Street Arabs, Ape Hangars, War Party, Oddlot, Year of the Bear and Dove Hunter. Starts at 1p.m.-- Audra Schroeder
