Controversial rapper Daniel Hernandez, better known as his stage name, Tekashi 6ix9ine, was set to perform Saturday at the Mesquite Rodeo, but the show was canceled.

The Mesquite Rodeo owners had no comment to the Observer regarding their reasons for canceling the show. However, Bruce Archer, a Mesquite council member, told us via email that he shared concerns from local residents, which may have led the rodeo to cancel the show.

“Residents contacted me about reading news reports that the performer was sentenced to a four-year probation for a conviction stemming from the use of a child in a sexual performance,” Archer writes via email. “There was also a reported shooting which occurred at his celebration following the probation sentencing. Additionally, the performer is also dealing with other criminal cases, including one in Houston for allegedly choking a boy and another in Brooklyn, New York, for allegedly assaulting a police officer. These are serious crimes and allegations. I felt the arena ownership needed to be aware of his record and the residents’ concerns with him performing in Mesquite.”

Tekashi received four years' probation for his child sex case. He entered a guilty plea to disorderly conduct. In exchange, prosecutors dropped the misdemeanor assault charge for his arrest for driving with a suspended license in Brooklyn, where he allegedly squeezed an officer's hand. A warrant arrest is still pending for his allegedly choking a 16-year-old kid at the Houston Galleria mall in January.

Archer clarifies that the Mesquite City Council did not cancel the show.

“They chose to cancel this concert,” Archer writes via email. “The City Council did not take any action regarding the concert. We are proud to have the new ownership group of the arena in Mesquite and are excited about their plans to enhance our community with the improvements to the arena.”

Tickets had been on sale since Oct. 22, but the Mesquite Rodeo website and its Facebook event page no longer have the event listed. The Mesquite Rodeo Facebook page did not post the cancellation of the show. Tekashi 6ix9ine's Facebook tour date page also doesn’t have the event listed. Ticketmaster’s ticket page shows a text box notifying readers that the event has been canceled.
