Sleigh Bells, AraabMuzik Tuesday, October 16, at House of Blues, $23 Still riding out the buzz from their second studio album, Reign of Terror, Sleigh Bells finish their U.S. tour with a stop at House of Blues, with hip-hop opener AraabMuzik. Both of Sleigh Bells' albums combined are only about 70 minutes long, and they clocked in at just under an hour at Granada Theater this past spring, but for many, their powerhouse performances make up the difference.
Die Antwoord, Datahowler Monday, October 15, at House of Blues, $22 South African rap-rave duo Die Antwoord draw artistic inspiration from the "zef" counter-culture movement in South Africa, which basically glorifies cheap stuff. Their dirty lyrics and out there look are enough to keep the world in a constant state of suspense. If you're intrigued, catch 'em tonight with Dallas' own electronic trip-hop act Datahowler.
Lower Dens, Jennifer Castle, Deep Time Tuesday, October 16, at Dada, $14 Baltimore's Lower Dens were here just four months ago, but Texas-born singer-guitarist Jana Hunter has been spotted around DFW more frequently, so perhaps these shows will happen more often as well. Canadian singer-songwriter Jennifer Castle and Austin's Deep Time, formerly Yellow Fever, open. Get there early for both.
Busdriver, Nocando, Open Mic Eagle Wednesday, October 17, at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios, $12 On his seventh and most recent full-length, Beaus$Eros, L.A. emcee Busdriver really drives it home with themes of heartbreak and personal failure. I know it's a school night, but if you can, check out his technical skills, alongside Nocando and Open Mic Eagle.
The Demigs, The Dig, The We Shared Milk, Cool Womb Wednesday, October 17, at Hailey's Club, $5/$7 An all-around great Denton bill, these four bands' performances are worth making the lengthy drive Wednesday night. The Demigs have been around for a while, although they've gradually revamped their sound in the past year, polishing it off with some super sweet guitar solos. See them, the Dig, the We Shared Milk and experimental opener Cool Womb, and dust off your mid-week blues.
Air Review, Home By Hovercraft Thursday, October 18, at AT&T Performing Arts Center, Free If you're ducking out of work early, or perhaps you get lucky during rush hour, swing by the AT&T Performing Arts Center for Patio Sessions with Dallas-based quintet Air Review. The group's indie-folk sound has landed them support slots alongside Portugal. The Man, Nada Surf and Grimes. Their new album, American Son, is set for release in early 2013, so they'll probably play some new material. The DOMA-nominated Home By Hovercraft have a new album out next month, Are We Chameleons?, which features songs for a musical about Marie Antoinette.
