A pretty slow Wednesday evening musically, but at least there's a nice triple-bill of up-and-comers at Andy's for anyone who wants to head to Denton. And, if you're feeling sentimental, you can head to the arts district and catch a Peter Cetera-less Chicago playing with the DSO...
Lovesick Mary, The Young Maths and The Truth About Movie Stars at Andy's Bar in Denton
Headlining tonight's nifty triple bill at Andy's is Denton's own Lovesick Mary. The poppy quintet is fronted by Beth Lutz
and sounds a bit like a less salacious version of Garbage. A
bit more interesting is one of the opening acts: McAllen's The Young
Maths. These guys play jagged indie rock that defies easy comparisons.
The band has a couple of good EPs under its belt and is working on a
full length. Songs such as "Sheets," "Gay Bars" and "Fingered on the
Dance Floor" remind me of Kaiser Chiefs on crystal meth. Lastly, starting
things off tonight will be Dallas' own The Truth About Movie Stars, an emo-ish quartet that recently released its debut full-length. Led by
Kylan Savage and Tanner Evans, TTAMS is certainly worth getting to the
venue a bit early for, as well. All in all, not a bad way to spend a hump day evening.
Chicago with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center
The cheapest seats in the house for this event will run you 50 bones. The most expensive will run you $175. And this is all for a band that's performing without its iconic frontman, Peter Cetera, who left the band in the mid-'80s. Still, they're something of an inspiration.
